Lake Titicaca
Straddling the borders of Peru and Bolivia, the highest navigable lake in the world is the legendary birthplace of the first Inca. At 174km long and up to 64km wide, Titicaca is South America's largest lake. It is at 3856m above sea level.
Start the boat Tour
At last, I could meet my guide and we formed a group of ten to board on the boat for today's excursion.
Lots of natural life could be seen during the trip, with many beautiful birds
First sight of the islas de los uros (floating reed island) There are 40 or so artificial floating islands of reed with native inhabitants.
We parked at an island and were greeted by local ladies. They dressed in a colorful way.
We sat on the "benches" formed by uros for the lady to explain their daily life on the island
Then we were led to a reed boat - made by uros
The guy showed how to cut the uros, peel and uros could serve as food. In a documentary, I learnt that uros help to keep their teeth white.
They need to take out rotten uros blocks and fill with fresh ones to keep the island floating
They feed on small fishes in the lake
