Isla Taquile 25 May 2015

Lake Titicaca

After visiting a family living on Uros island, we continued to Isla Tanquile.

When parking at the dock, we needed to walk up to the high point of the hilly island, following the single path.  People greeted each other with handshake and hug.

Carving of an evil monster

Crops could be seen everywhere

Village along the hillside

Community hall at the high point, they sell woolen and alpaca goods and colourful garments whose patterns and designs bear hidden message about the wearer's social standing or marital status.

The residents of this island run their own tourism operations in the hope of maintaining a degree of control over tourism and ensuring that the visits of outsiders do not destroy their delicate culture. There is no hotel on the island

Local crops and harvest.  People here are very friendly and passed me a bite to taste.

Children gathered to buy ice-cream

Stroll in a village

Lunch time at a local family, with a fair view

Simple food with tasty fish and rice dishes

Herbal tea

A carrying bag and waist belt, it's their custom to knit with patterns telling their family history

Different kind of flora
