Itinerary
I needed to leave Punta Arenas to Puerta Natales this day for the trekking tour later on. As I arrived at this town late on previous day, I would like to spend a few more hours here to grasp a brief idea before leaving.
After breakfast, I checked out and carried my backpack with me for a sight visit walk at the town centre.
Punta Arenas
Founded a little more than 150 years ago, Punta Arenas was Chile's first permanent settlement in Patagonia. Great development in cattle-keeping, mining, and wood production led to an economic and social boom at the end of the 19th century; today, though the port is no longer an important stop on trade routes, it exudes an aura of faded grandeur. Plaza de Armas (Plaza Munoz Gamero), is surrounded by evidence of its early prosperity; buildings whose then-opulent brick exteriors recall a time when this was one of Chile's wealthiest cities.
With sunny weather, it's really enjoyable to take pictures from different perspectives
Museo de Punta Arenas
Monumento Hernando De Magallanes
The newer houses here have colorful tin roofs, best appreciated when seen from a high vantage point. Here at Mirador Cerro de la Cruz
Overlooking the Estrecho de Magallanes 麥哲倫海峽
Weather changed very fast and it turned rainy. I walked all the way to Muelle Prat, the port
Quite disappointed to visit Mercado Municipal, not too many to see and the dinning place was not in operation
Visit Lomito's to have my lunch, avocado hot dog + helado
