Hol Chan Marine Reserve
At the southern end of Ambergris Caye, Hol Chan was established more than two decades ago. The profusion of marine life is a testament to the reserve's success. A lot of Hol Chan is shallow and in many cases the sites are better for snorkeling. Although the reef is fishier in the south of this section, the north holds more formations, with deep spur-and-groove cuts and interesting terrain.
Shallow waters offer excellent conditions for snorkeling, esp. at Shark Ray Alley, but divers will be thrilled by the ship-wreck at Amigos Wreck.
Shark Ray Alley
People feed and attract hungry nursing sharks and southern stingrays there. As a result, these predators have long become accustomed to boats. Shark Ray Alley is the top snorkeling destination in Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a protected part of the Belize Barrier Reef that harbors an amazing diversity of colorful coral and other marine life.
