Leaving Tortugal
There was a daily tour organised for visitors. Starting at 9:00 a.m. a lancha departs from the dock and pick up visitors from each hotel and tour along the river to the castle
Castillo de San Felipe
Back in the 16th and 17th centuries, British pirates caused mayhem around Izabal, raiding Spanish merchant caravans, and the Castillo de San Felipe, just 3km from Rio Dulce town, was built to combat these marauding buccaneers.
After visiting the castle (at the river only), the lancha gets back to the public dock for collecting more passengers to Livingston.
Mangrove bushes in the river with many birds
A large patch of lotus field
Village with locals living along the river
A toilet stop at the hut with thermal bath (hot spring) and a cave tour
There should be bats inside the cave, well I had not the time to get inside for an exploration
Another village

Livingston
Once stepped on Livingston, I was told that a boat to Punta Gorda was going to depart. The staff urged me to clear the procedure with the immigration such that I could go immediately. But I did not want to skip this special town, famous of its Garífuna culture, Seven Altars (Siete Altares, waterfalls, ~5km from town center) and Playa Blanca (beach). After making sure that there should be another boat departed at 2:00p.m., I decided to stop over and take some time for lunch at Livingston.
Restaurante Margoth (Seafood)
simple but featured display on walls
Coco locos - mixed coco and cucumber juice, icy and yummy
Tapado seafood soup, with plantain, crab and whole fish
I got back to the dock at 1:30 but the boat not yet arrived until 4:30, : (
A friendly Garífuna cleaner, chatted with me during my wait. He asked me to take a picture for him.
there was a giant water snake floating on the water and attracted many people gathered at the waterfront. I crossed the border on this similar boat - lancha
Sunset on the water
Should I know that the lancha would arrive at 4:30, I could take the time (3 hours) to visit the Siete Altares, which is really nice, picture from Google is captured -
