Lamanai Tour 29.5.2017

Joining the tour

I once planned to visit Orange Walk town and travel along the New River to Lamanai.  In order to avoid the trouble of bringing my luggage around and changing hotel, I rather stay one more night in Belize City.  Learnt from the Frontdesk of the Great House Inn that there could be tour arranged to Lamanai, I paid US$145 which is much more than joining the tour at Orange Walk (BZ$80).  That means my US$100 goes to a taxi ride (1 hour drive) both way.

With jet lag, I got up early and met the driver at 7:30a.m.  I was the only passenger for the ride to the dock near Tower Hill Bridge (~4 miles south of Orange Walk).  The driver is black and I assume he is Creole.   I could learn quite a lot  of Belize from him.  He said "Are you ready?  As ready as Freddy?"

With some time waiting for the others to join the tour, I walked around to learn the plants.

Almond tree

I once picked a fruit of Noni Tree at an island of Puerto Rico.

Different kinds of orchids growing on trunks.

The boat ride is an opportunity to observe the river's prolific and colourful birdlife, as well as crocs, iguanas, monkeys and other wildlife.

There are resorts around but seemed not used

The guide brought some fruit to attract this spider monkey (with a long tail).

We finally had a total of 10 people for the tour

Each time when the tour guide spotted something interesting, he slowed down the boat and got close to the spot and explained for us.
