Chilies

Native to the region, chilies form an integral part of the diet - over 100 varieties are eaten.  Chili is commonly served in a salsa sauce that you will find at every dinner table.  The main Belizean brand is Marie Sharp, which comes in several spice levels (from 'Mild' to 'Beware'), and is made from a hybrid of Scotch bonnet and Jamaican varieties.

Way back home 12.6.2017

It's good to know that there is an airport on this tiny island.  In the morning, the host of the tour shop (Black Hawk Sailing Tour) next to my place offered to drive me to the airport on his golf car.

The airport is quite primitive

My boarding card

A plane landed but it was not Maya Airline

My plane finally arrived

Marvelous ride to have the aerial view of the place

I sat at the last row next to the exit

Turquoise water

The reef / atoll in long shape

Finally reach the mainland

I got off when it had a brief stop at the domestic airport.  I kept asking how to get my luggage and found that they are going to take off.  At the last moment I asked for getting back to the plane.  They did not get my name on the guest list.  I'm so "alert" to show them the confirmation email and they let me in.

It took a turn to get to the international airport

Good to have this attractive poster in the airport

Sun set and sun rise at Caye Caulker 11.6.2017

Really nice to have the leisure spirit for this special moment

People here is so friendly - a man in Bella's Backpackers Hostel asked me to enter the roof floor of the bungalow to capture the sunset

The moon still on at dawn, outside my room

Coloured shades before sunrise

De Real Macaw is just few steps from the beach

Magic moment just before the sun pop up

Snorkeling Tour 11.6.2017

Hol Chan Marine Reserve

At the southern end of Ambergris Caye, Hol Chan was established more than two decades ago.  The profusion of marine life is a testament to the reserve's success.  A lot of Hol Chan is shallow and in many cases the sites are better for snorkeling.  Although the reef is fishier in the south of this section, the north holds more formations, with deep spur-and-groove cuts and interesting terrain.

Shallow waters offer excellent conditions for snorkeling, esp. at Shark Ray Alley, but divers will be thrilled by the ship-wreck at Amigos Wreck.

Shark Ray Alley

People feed and attract hungry nursing sharks and southern stingrays there.  As a result, these predators have long become accustomed to boats.  Shark Ray Alley is the top snorkeling destination in Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a protected part of the Belize Barrier Reef that harbors an amazing diversity of colorful coral and other marine life.

Captain Amado Watson, thank you for taking care of me in the water during the trip

Caye Caulker 10.6.2017

To enjoy sun and fun at Caribbean, one should spend at least a few days soaking up some rays and soaking your toes in the turquoise blue.

Caye Caulker is the ultimate chill-out destination, with a laid-back village vibe and easy access to the sea.

Relax with swinging in a hammock, sipping a fresh-squeezed fruit juice, or explore the island with mangroves, snorkel or dive to get close to the colorful fishes, go for sailing, etc. to enjoy this paradise.

On the boat - San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi, away from the pier

Caye Caulker, I'm coming

Many docks around for boarding for any kinds of water sports or cruise

It is a small island that all the points are accessible on foot

Street view in the evening

In the next morning, I was going to join a morning tour to visit the ocean reserves.  However, the captain would like to take some time to recruit more guests and thus I went for a morning walk to the southern tip.

There were many water birds

The main street is covered by sand
